Music at Northwood
Choir Membership and Rehearsal Schedule
The adult choir is open to men and women, ages sixteen and above. A simple audition is necessary for joining, but music reading ability is not demanded (just a good ear and pitch control). Currently, we use a two-rehearsal system. The larger rehearsal is on Wednesday nights, from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. The second rehearsal is on Sundays from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m. Special rehearsals are added as we draw near to major productions and special events.
Praise Band and orchestra
The praise band plays for every service, while orchestra instrumentalists focus on the main Sunday service and special productions. The praise band rehearses weekly under the direction of Matt Coleman. Guitarists, percussionists, and keyboard players who are interested in joining should contact Matt. Orchestra coordination in done by Nicole Park. Praise songs and anthems are all written for full orchestra, so we are always looking for interested players.
Praise Teams
Rotating praise teams, composed of choir members, help spearhead worship. These individuals put in extra hours of rehearsal in order to make sure the worship songs are sung at their best. Matt Coleman works with the various teams sets their schedules.
Children’s Music—Gideon’s Army
Northwood does not use a graded choir program, simply because the Royal Ranger and Missionette programs are so comprehensive in ministering to children. Also, Northwood Temple Academy programs overlap frequently with church schedules. However, under the direction of Nicole Park, Gideon’s Army serves our children well. Covering the ages of k-5 through 6th grade, this choir sings frequently in our services, as well as in the Christmas and Easter pageants. They meet on Wednesdays from 6:15 to 7:00 p.m. For further information, call Nicole through the church office.
