Volunteer Opportunities
Mercy International is connected to two supporting organizations, both of which benefit from volunteer service.
The Warehouse
We have been shipping medical and educational equipment since 1999 to underdeveloped nations. Inventory is maintained at a warehouse in downtown Fayetteville. We have a force of volunteers, under the direction of Sandra Kessner (NWT Samaritan1@aol.com), who help manage items as they are received, categorized and preped for shipping. Volunteers opportunities are available for:
- General manpower
- Medical personnel (to identify items for sorting)
- Donation pick up
- Inventory management
- Packing for distribution
Thrift Shop
The Northwood Thrift Shop opened in May 2004 for the purpose of raising funds for the purchase of medicines and eyeglass materials for the teams, serving in both the US and abroad. The Thrift Shop also reaches out to help families who have lost their homes to fire. For those who have come to desire a better lifestyle, we offer business clothing through our organization for job interviews, etc.
The store, which is located at 2911 Ramsey Street in Fayetteville, is set up like a boutique. It is staffed totally by volunteers. Help is needed to:
- Sorting
- Cleaning
- Pricing
- Sales
